The Rainbow Roots Projects was founded to document the individual histories of Chicago-area LGBT couples. Rainbow Roots is dedicated to sharing the love, laughter, and legacies of LGBT families with the world. The project uses photography, The Rainbow Roots Blog, social media, and a series of mini-documentaries to share the stories and traditions both familiar and unique. http://www.rainbowroots.com

Some of the stories from the Rainbow Roots Project:

Photo 1 - Darlene & Amirah: After over 20 years together and raising two children, Darlene & Amirah are ready to share their laughter and their wisdom. This former carpenter and chef now spend their time being actively involved with their church and caring for their new grandson, Douglas and their god-daughter, Anya.

Photo 2 - Armando & Scott: This cosmopolitan pair brings into the 21st century. After meeting on MySpace being drawn together by a psychic’s prophecy and the strength of their Catholic faith, Armando & Scott now own a home, just celebrated their 4th anniversary, and use their free time to mentor struggling teens in their community.

Photo 3 - Deb & Gail: Together 16 years and counting, this writer and former nurse have gone from hardcore activists to supermoms. Though no stranger to adversity, their bond only grows deeper. Deb & Gail share stories of good times and bad and the connection between them that runs through it all.

AnySquared Projects’ monthly film series, Cinema Minima presents “Barton Fink” with Pre-Movie Trivia with Tucker (join the fun, and play Chicago’s only live pre-movie wacky game show and win prizes!).

Barton Fink (1991, 116 min., Joel & Ethan Coen): Playwright Barton Fink is recruited to Hollywood to write a script for a wrestling picture. With writers block in a melting hotel room, Barton has no idea what he has gotten into.

featuring The Cinema Culture

The Cinema Culture is a grassroots advocacy group that promotes and exhibits the work of new and established filmmakers. The programs are curated by film and video maker Amir George. For the past three years Cinema Culture has curated Seen & Heard Music Video Showcase which highlights music videos from local and national indie music talent. Cinema Culture has recently took refuge in a artist run mansion in Hyde Park (S.H.O.P) for some of their upcoming film programs. TCC seeks to screen work innovative and entertaining for niche and mass audiences.

Filmmakers:

Amir George is a film and video maker, and programmer of the Cinema Culture. Amir created the Cinema Culture with the desire to promote and exhibit work from underground and yet to be known filmmakers as well as his own. Amir’s short films, music video work, and experimental videos have played in film festivals and special programs abroad. His most recent short feature film Mind of Delilah about a budding collage artist preparing for her first exhibition is currently making its run on the film festival circuit.

Amanda Daniels is a Chicago based / Ohio born filmmaker. Her films Aersol de Amore and Burning Tale of Desire have screened at film festivals throughout the country throughout 2010. Amanda and her sister Stephanie Daniels write, direct, and produce the films.

David Madry is a filmmaker from Germany. He briefly visited Chicago a few years back when The Cinema Culture presented his work in a small showcase. David continues to live and make work in Germany.

Andy Cahill is an animator from Rhode Island. Currently based in New York after completing his MFA at The Art Institute of Chicago. HIs animated short films have screened SXSW and Chicago International Film Festival.

Nelson Carvajal is a Chicago based content creator whose work is healthy mix of appropriated mixed media and experimental video. Carvajal helped launch Cinefile, a niche online networking platform for independent filmmakers. Nelson continues to be an influential figure in the growing DIY film community.

On thefirst Sunday of each month, Cinema Minima, a monthly film series, invites you to explore a menagerie of themes and experiences through film. Aspiring to present an atmosphere to enjoy good films with good friends (and good drinks), Cinema Minima wants to be your favorite way to end a Sunday!
